The school, however, only gives 50% extra time on tests, and I'm pretty sure that neither the admin or teaching staff would philosophically support such an accommodation.
I'm bringing this up now because the mom just emailed me, wondering if her son should continue at our school; she likes the small classes and individualized attention, but she wonders if going to a school that provides such an accommodation would be a better fit.
QUESTION FOR YOU: Are there public or private schools that you know of that allow a student's exam score to be based on completed elements alone? In other words, if a student only completes 50% of a test that everyone else is expected to complete (even with extra time), that student would be able to earn a 100% on that exam -- if they did A+ work on the part they finished.
TheoThanks, Lulu and historyteach. It's an interesting situation since we are a private school -- we don't use IEPs, but we do try to use specific accommodations as recommended by the counselor. Since we have more and more students with LDs, however, situations like these that invite more IEP-like solutions may be coming down the pike.
I would like take pictures of my students in middle school. I would like to document the year and create a slide show at the end of the year. I will be teaching 5 classes this year in math at different levels. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
flackaStart with the end and work backwards. What are you documenting - the students, the topics that they were taught/learned, presentations or something else? What is the purpose of the slide show and who is the intended audience? Once you know your end goal then you should have a good idea of how to proceed.
O...See MoreSince it won't let me post on the thread, I guess I have to start it as a new post.
Anyway - you may as well just give the student a 100% without taking the test if all they have to do is "not do" a question that they don't know the answer to. Answer the questions you know, leave the ones you don't know blank, and you get 100%.
Obviously, this is not a fair or accurate system to measure what someone actually knows or can do. Sure, we need to allow for slower processing, etc. So extra time makes sense. A shorter test makes sense.
But just allowing a student to decide AFTER seeing the questions which ones they will do or not isn't really a workable solution.
Whew--hot and windy here today. Glad we don't live in a desert.
9,477 steps today. Wow--did I guzzle that water when I came inside. I'm not wearing my phone/pedometer all day, since my phone needs to be charged mid-day. I miss those steps--ha!
I will have a 5th grade boy next year who has some issues. He runs away (sometimes off school grounds) and he sometimes hits others and rarely has respect for authority. We don't have a school counselor, nor a one on one para who can keep track of him when he leaves the building. Ideas?
I am taking a class on special education and need to do a survey on special education teachers and regular teachers (although i believe there are no "regular" teachers). :)
I had looked at the bonus workout exercises earlier this week and they looked entorely doable. There are two sets: set 1 has bodyweight squats, pushups, and mountain climbers; set 2 has one-arm kettlebell swings, goblet squats, and mountain climbers. Entirely doable, right. Well, I decided to read the description of this workout and saw that it was SIX rounds of each set! Oh well, I was already changed in my workout gear, so I started the workout.
Here's the breakdown of what I accomplished: --5 minute warmup (butt kicks, high knees, marching in place, arm swings, leg swings) SET 1 --bodyweight squats, 15 reps, 6 rounds (no problems) --pushups, 12 reps, 6 rounds (modified because I just can't do them unmodified yet) --mountain climbers, 40 reps, 6 rounds SET 2 --one-arm kettlebell swings, 15 lbs, 12 reps, 6 rounds (alternated right/left arm each round) --goblet squats, 15 lbs, 12 reps, 6 rounds --mountain climbers, 40 reps, 6 rounds (modified this round since my GERD was an issue on the floor)
After the workout, I used my husband's foam roller because my quads and hamstrings were very tight. I hope this along with my amino supplements helps me not be to sore tomorrow.
I noticed that the app I use for my workouts tells me how much weight I lifted. Today was 2,160 lbs!
In life a person occasionally gets the opportunity to do something great. When that time comes, only two things matter: being prepared to seize the moment and having the courage to take your best swing.
