kgteachHi infinit! I got moved into a new apartment September 2016 and got an offer from DDESS in October 2017. I spoke to the land lord and told her that I needed to break my lease because of a government job offer. I forfeited my security deposit and had to pay 1 month's rent. Just be honest with your landlord. Everything worked out great! Don't worry.
infiniti4Thank you dannid. I was kind of thinking along the same lines. I just don't see any other way around it. Going to be honest and hope for the best...
Did not see an answer so will try again. Should I be concerned that I've never received an email regarding a referral? Actually received a job offer last year but came too late. Principal emailed me directly and then called me for interview but never received anything regarding a referral from HR.
CeceOh that's sad to hear! Do you know if you need a degree in family and consumer science/home economics or if there is potential to hire someone that shows interest in teaching and has a degree in the other area? While teaching art I have taught sewing and other related topics. Thank you for the information.. I really appreciate it!
I would be surprised if that was the only Art position they would be looking for this year so don't despair too much about not having the Home Ec. certification.
Sounds like I wou...See MoreDoes anyone really understand this provision. I asked DoDEA about this provision and received the following email response:
"If you do not possess a valid state ESL teaching certificate then you are subject to meeting DoDEA's 24 semester hour to include 6 semester hours in teaching ESL course work requirements."
Sounds like I would definitely need state certification in this area to qualify under DoDEA policy, Masters degree in TEFL or no.

hahaWith a Masters in ESL and state certification (which means you only need half of the usually required credits) you should be fine for DoDDS qualification.
VulcanWarrior@haha - Do you mean I could be qualified NOW thru DoDDS - without an ESL Endorsement from my state? The Masters in TEFL & state certification in Social Sciences is enough to qualify me thru DoDDS b/c I only need half of the required credit hours? So, I can request DoDDS to evaluate me NOW for ESL? Wow!
This may be a good year for it though. On the vacancy list for Pacific East 15 of the 80+ were straight elementary positions with another few combined with K or Pre-K.
Also, if you are in Korea or even one of the more remote Japan locations then many people would see Japan/nearer Tokyo as a step up and look to transfer. Yokosuka (I believe) is actually considered a hardship location which makes no sense to me.
